Hi I edit Blog Diego for the San Diego Reader. I know this blog is dormant, but it's kind of a gold mine. Would you be interested in publishing an excerpt in the Reader? If so please contact me.
Thanks much.

Dave,

This was a blast from the past. You may remember me as the "fill-in bass player" while Paul was up matriculating in SLO. I also was there that night playing with the Wannabees. Still living and playing in the area up in south Riverside county. Would love to get together sometime and reminisce. You and I used to jam together back in the day and as I remember it you introduced & recommended me to Frank as Paul's replacement while he was away at college. I have you to thank for some great memories. Every now and then I see an old X-Offenders EP sitting in a used record store bin and get an ear to ear grin remembering the packed houses at Journey & the Headquarters. Please feel free to email me if you'd like to arrange getting together sometime.

PS - if you can still get access to the footage of the Wannabees please post it. My kids would get a good laugh seeing footage of their old dad up on stage no matter how grainy it may be. About to see my oldest graduate from UCR next month, boy how time flys!

I'm bothered that I can't identify the string synth in the Bowie video. It looks a lot like the Arp/Solina String Ensemble, but not quite enough to actually be one.

I'm convinced that Sarah Palin's recent use of the term "assclown" can somehow be traced back to San Diego. Remember, "I want to see you wear your ass like a hat"?

>>Personally I preferred reading the posts…

Bill: Thanks for the endorsement! I think there is something significant about selecting some of the old stuff and showing it off in its best light and in some context.

It's fun seeing flyers and photos go by on Facebook, but it's a different experience ... Certainly a more democratic one that a blog can't ever match. I hope people still get pleasure from visiting the stuff we put here — and like I wrote, I'll happily work with other materials people want to show off this way. (It surprises me how many visitors we still get!)

Facebook just isn't the same as a normal blog.

Apart from anything you end up getting bombarded in all directions by messages. Hardly very relaxing!

Bands making music in the misty mountain town of Boone, NC, in the 1980s at Appalachian State University were hungry, aggressive, loud, funny and happily weird. Fear & Loathing, The Outer Limits, No Reason Why and others explored fresh punk rock territory. I sang for the Dead Wives of Jerry Lee Lewis. On the national scale, we were all fascinated with bands like Dinosaur Jr, Meat Puppets, fIREHOSE, Sonic Youth, Redd Kross, Husker Du, Mudhoney, Tar Babies, Fishbone, Das Damen and Soundgarden. Those are great memories of inventive rock music being the musical landscape to intellectual expansion, coming of age and good friendships. Those were happy, youthful times.

Heather, glad you found this site. I barely remember the Cockpit days, as that is when I first joined, but I bet Doriot would love to hear from you. I will let her know that you commented. Cheers!
