Here are some details on some of the NEW bands you’ll be seeing:

Jeffrey Luck Lucas, the co-founder of the Morlocks, has returned. Here’s what the press has to say about his solo sound:

“Is it always nighttime in the songs of Jeffrey Luck Lucas? Not really, but it almost feels that way, what with the dark moodiness of his arrangements and the introspection and angst that permeate so many of his lyrics. And not just any night, either, but the kind that’s always thick with a funky bourbon haze, where sleeplessness incarcerates your vision and all intentions of decency are transformed into blurry, oil-slicked puddles you carelessly drive over or step straight into. Things happen on nights like this- fortunes are squandered, souls misplaced. You wake up on the other side, and all you can think to do is pray.” — Kurt Wolff, the San Francisco Bay Guardian

Thomas E Ward is known to many as the bassman of the Nashville Ramblers. Tonight he will demonstrate his considerable songwriting skills with nothing but an acoustic guitar. Be prepared to be amazed!

The Comeuppance is a “chamber pop” duo from San Francisco playing acoustic and electric, all-original music. They are:

David Fleminger: guitar, vocals
Heather Vorwerck: cello, bass

The Comeuppance meets “Alice in Wonderland”! Watch the video

P Man is a San Diego-based DJ who focuses mostly on Dubstep, Grime, Garage and UK Funky. As a bassist, he is a 20-year veteran, playing in bands in San Diego and on tour around the U.S.

In 2008 he started “The P Man Show” on West London based React.FM. He is now presenting his weekly internet radio show on CybaFm every Tuesday 10 ’til 12 PM GMT (2 ’til 4 PM Pacific Time).

Wendy Bailey & True Stories will be playing rock with a wide mix of influences, from folk to hard rock, 1950s to today. Both Bailey and scene veteran Bart Mendoza contribute songs to the band, with the beginnings of an album underway. Here’s the lineup:

Wendy Bailey: vocals, guitar
Bart Mendoza: vocals, guitar — Manual Scan / the Shambles et al.
Danny Cress: drums — Skid Roper / The Rarities et al.
Billy Fritz: bass — The Coyote Problem)

Bombast is an irresponsible mix of members of the Answers, the Rockin’ Dogs and the Wallflowers. They play pretty much what you’d think when you get guys like this together. Here’s the lineup:

“Shady” Kench Degrate: keys, Tijuana-style trumpet
Dave Ellison: flaming guitar, earsplitting abuse of wah wah, napalm
Dave “Richter Scale Buster” Fleminger: “earthquake”-style bass
Matt “Sleepy” Johnson: beating the living hell out of the drums
David Wallflower: shredded vocal cords, primal screams and arrhythmic guitar here and there

As an added bonus, the Che Underground will offer free admission to the shows to Jerry Cornelius and Pat Works and anybody who drives them down. We miss you guys!

Obviously, as they say — be there or be square!

  3. Wish I could be part of this one, but since I work Thursday, Friday, and Saturday nights and have plans to take at least one Friday and two Saturdays off in August, I’m just not able to get the time (or afford the lost income) that I’d need in order to be there.

  8. Speaking of Paul H. Funkadelic jams, I was rereading comments spun off of the Eric B./Taylor commercial thread, from Matt J., talking about a later (but earlier than the present) lineup of the Morlocks. He said they went into a more Stooges, Funkadelic, MC5, James Brown, Meters and hip-hop direction. And that he had good quality tape and a 12″ (pressing of a boom-box tape): https://cheunderground.site/?p=340#comment-2429 .

    I’d love hear that stuff.

And I got my plane tickets to see the shows. I’ll see y’all there.
