More sides of David Klowden

(5051 and Tell-Tale Hearts veteran David Klowden continues to explore his back pages with more artifacts of his crucified youth.)

Detail: 5051 EP image insert (collection David Klowden)Here are both sides of the 8 1/2 x 14 insert that was folded up and stuck in each of the records [the 1981 EP by seminal San Diego punk band 5051, vocals by David Klowden].

Also, two photos.

Detail: David “GI” Klowden, 1980 (collection David Klowden)First is the only Crucified Youth-era (1980) photo I have of David GI (the punk nickname given me by Marc Rude — some thought I was called “GI” because of the ubiquitous Army jacket, but the real reason was because I was a Germs fan and that was the name of their album.) This picture was taken in San Carlos in front of the house between mine and Dennis Quick’s.

Detail: 5051 EP lyrics insert (collection David Klowden)Not long after this picture was taken, I was followed home from school and beaten up by two Hessians under the tree behind me in the picture. If you look closely, you’ll recognize the PIL pin. I saw them, around the time this picture was taken, at the infamous Olympic Auditorium show in LA where Johnny Lydon was attacked (with flying curses, spit and detritus) for no longer being a Sex Pistol. I remember being disgusted that the mondos in the audience treated the great Los Plugz, the opening band, the same way. The “Wayne County and the Electric Chairs” T-shirt under the Army jacket was purchased at the original Off the Record in 1979.

Detail: Albert’s Music City, 1985 (collection David Klowden)Photo Two: December, 1985, in front of Albert’s Music City in La Mesa, which I believe is long gone. It’s probably a Del Taco now — somebody in the Che blogosphere knows. This group was about to pile into two cars and make a run for the border to take a TJ taxi to Revolucion for Beatle boots. Extra credit to whomever can name everyone in the picture.
