FUNLAND and old downtown SD

I've just found a series of almost unbelievably comprehensive articles on downtown theaters (prior to gentrification) and the company who ran them, along with other related subjects (a history of drive-in theaters in SD, and a history of the Pussycat theater chain). I worked at the Bijoux Theater on 5th for a brief time around 1985 for the very strange company who owned these theaters, Walnut Properties. The article has many photos of downtown SD as we knew it, including the legendary Funland arcade.

Check it out:

Thanks, Dave! Maybe we can excerpt and link a bit for the blog. :-)

That's some pretty cool shit right there , brings back a lot of teenaged memories of hanging around downtown with all the tattoo shops , peepshows , theatres and pawnshops .

BTW, I love the slap fight between the two commenters. "I was depressed!" "I was depressed and homeless!!" "I was depressed and had AIDS!!!"
